I am not a fan of the Photographic Workshop for learning Beginner's Photography.
WHY? My students on a course of study return each week after exploring a topic in depth, say ISO for example, they can then log-on to the virtual learning site located on my website after the session to extend and support that topic. They can visit the resources we used in class and follow useful links that relate to that topic to take their own time to digest the learning outcomes. My students are set small homework each week to upload so I can give feedback and assessment, thsi is how i check they are learning and I can guide them out of class if they are struggling. More importantly, they get to COME BACK week on week, so if there is anything they didn't understand, we can re-visit that learning. My students don’t feel stuck or stranded. When you embark on a course of learning, it's important that the teacher is not only very skilled and knowledgeable about their subject but has the relevent teaching skills and the empathy to teach. Professional teachers are trained to know how the brain receives, recalls and retains information. They spend many years learning how to craft and plan Schemes of Work so the learning is scaffolded and builds into a complete comprehensive body of work with clear assessment criteria, so student’s learning is checked and confirmed! So many people I teach have been on other more expensive one-day workshops or courses and are still confused by some of the information they have received.
