Dear Annie
Thank you for your email. I cannot express the feeling of pride and achievement I have from finally learning how to move beyond the Auto setting and begin to understand and use my camera to create great photos. After reading books and using YouTube tutorials I really thought Photography was beyond me. You are a BRILLIANT teacher and you made the learning fun, challenging and most of all seemed to me to have such a determination and commitment to each of us mastering the Manual mode and appreciating photography in all it's forms. Thank you Annie Im loving time each day with my camera.
Kim, Beginners, 2022
Thanks for a great course Annie. I learned so much, and the projects were all amazing last night it was really good to see photography through other people’s eyes. Please do let us know about any courses or workshops you plan to do in the future, Lee, Intermediate course
Annie's unique relaxed teaching style was fun and educational at the same time. I can't wait to move on to the intermediate class. First class!!! Alan, Beginners
Hi Annie, I really enjoyed the Autumn Beginners Course and I consider myself quite lucky to have found such a dedicated teacher in yourself. I should like to take further courses so please keep me informed. Kind regards Mukesh, Beginners
Hiya Annie,Thank You. Your course is amazing and the way you teach makes it enjoyable too. You explain things in a way that actually sink in. When I started the course I did not completely understand my camera. Now I have finished the course I know how to get the shot that I want, the correct ISO and shutter speed to catch a bird in flight, something that I would never believe was possible, I am now achieving whenever I want to. The group I had was very friendly and we all going to stay in touch with each other.

I have just finished the 8 week beginners course and would extremely recommend it to anyone who wants to understand there camera better - which will lead to capturing better photos!
Ann is lovely to work with, her teaching style covers all types of learning abilities and at a good pace. Homework was always fun and exciting to do - especially while waiting for feedback off Ann. I thoroughly enjoyed the course the whole time - my favourite parts were the practical lessons on portraits and the London trip.
Absolutely loved the course and I’ll be back to do more with Ann again in the future!
Shelley,Beginners
Cannot Praise Annie enough. She has taught us so much about Photography in just 8 weeks. Her passion for photography shines through into her lessons. All subjects were explained clearly and loved being sent home with practical work to do during the week. Enjoyed the portrait lesson and the trip to London. For anyone thinking of doing a photography course I would highly recommend this course. Don’t ponder just book it you will not be Disappointed. Gary, Beginners
Dear Annie,
Aside from wanting to take reasonable family snaps, I have never been remotely interested in photography. My goal joining your beginners’ course was a simple one: To be able stand a reasonable chance of taking some photos of wild animals on an upcoming safari holiday. Your beginners’ course has utterly changed the way in which I both view a photograph as well as attempt to take one. Each week was like being given the key to unlock hidden powers within both the camera and myself.
You ask if the course is good value for money? My response is that if you own a camera and want to be able to take a half decent photograph, you cannot afford not to go on one of these courses, they are exceptional value. For me the most enjoyable part was the gradual discovery of new skills, coupled with your encouragement which in turn fed my confidence. Oh, and not forgetting Sharon’s tea and biscuits.
I found the portrait session quite tough, a bit overwhelming, but ultimately the most rewarding lesson.
The evening spent photographing the Thames river was exceptional.
So where now for my “little” camera and me? At the start, I felt a bit of a fraud, comparing my Sony compact to all the other cameras in the room, but as the weeks have gone by, I’m happier with my choice. I realise that it will have its limitations, and in time as they become more obvious, I may be tempted to upgrade and consider joining the next course.
In the meantime, I can see opportunities for me to use my new skills. Each year we give a desk calendar to our customers, 30 years ago I started, and I still run a landscape gardening business, so I may have a go at using some of my own images for that. Mainly though, I want to keep on experimenting, I have some ideas for some projects that I may start to work on. You have opened up a new world to me.
Many thanks and all the best, Tim, Beginners
I thought the intermediate course would be the logical way to follow up the course I attended as a beginner and I was not disappointed. I now look at my surroundings in a totally different way, thanks to Annie's amazing tuition, and I am always on the look out for what I think would and wouldn't make a good picture where ever I happen to be. Having attended the second course, I now appreciate even more what an amazing piece of gear my camera is and how easy it has been for me and my fellow students to absorb her teaching and become infected by her enthusiasm for this form of art. Roma , Intermediate
Thank you so much for a fantastic beginners course. You are obviously a brilliant teacher, as well as a talented photographer. For someone who was very nervous at the start of the course, you somehow managed to build my confidence and now that it's finished I actually miss it! Even if I didn't continue with any others of your courses, what I have learnt from you has been invaluable and something I can use for life. I do really hope to be able to take your intermediate course next year.
Warm wishes Julie, Beginners
I bought a mirrorless camera in the summer which had so many functions I had no idea how to use. So I decided to sign up for Annie’s beginners class. I was a bit worried everyone would have big dslr camera and my little micro 4/3 rds would pale into insignificance . How wrong I was I have learnt so much that my little camera can do with fantastic picture quality. Annie is an excellent teacher she is able to teach a class with all different cameras . I loved the trip to London and was amazed at the pictures we all took. The classes are fun even though there is a lot of information to learn each lesson. The homework Annie sets helps you put into practice what you have been doing in the lessons. I have now signed up for intermediate course and am really looking forward to furthering my photography knowledge
Alison, Beginners
Got the manual… and the Idiot’s Guide… and purchased the magazines. But simply wasn’t learning how to use my DSLR camera. What I needed was practical, face-to-face learning, in a small group. Annie’s beginners course provided all this and more.
Simple to understand language, great course structure combined with regular feedback and support material meant that I was using my camera in new and exciting ways – right from the outset. Getting off Automatic and exploring the semi-automatic and manual modes will get your creative juices flowing. And with Annie’s expert tuition what once seemed quite daunting quickly becomes second nature.
I wasn’t looking for the cheapest course – rather the best course. Fortunately, in this instance, the best course was also the best value. I’m moving straight on to the Intermediate Course – and can’t wait!
But be warned! I now find it difficult to leave the house without taking my camera with me!

Hi Annie,
I just wanted to drop you a line and say thank you so much for introducing me to photography. Creating beautiful images is such a pleasure far removed from a quick snap. I've had time to assimilate and practice the information from the advanced course and am hoping to put a panel together and also use photography and writing to communicate things which are important to me and find another path.
Take care, I'm sure I'll take another course! Jill, Advanced
The course was an experience not to be missed. Annie's enthusiasm is infectious and with her guidance I now know what the various buttons and dials on my camera actually do. The highlight for me was the visit to London for a session on night time photography. I have come away from the course aware of what a truly amazing piece of kit a camera is echoed by Annie's comment that it can capture pictures the human eye cannot see, something I had never thought about before.
Rose, Beginners
“I signed up to the Beginners Digital Photography course with some trepidation - I was a complete novice and found all the numbers and dials on my camera completely overwhelming.
However even after the first lesson with Annie my fears we’re overcome. Annie has a very enthusiastic approach which is quite motivating. She is patient and explains things so you can understand them. The size of our Tuesday morning class was perfect - it meant that Annie and Sharon could spend time with those of us who struggled a little.
I was a little worried about the field trip to London for night work but it was one of the highlights of the course and I loved it! That practical was so helpful in understanding how versatile my camera was. That event together with the portrait session was amazing - I loved taking photos of others as I imagined I was David Bailey - great fun.
The beginners course was very worthwhile - it has opened my eyes to how much I can achieve with a camera but also how much more I have to learn. I just love photography now - especially as I know what all the numbers mean! Lynn,Beginners
Hi Annie,Thank you so much for a brilliant Beginner's course! It was great to see improvement from the very first lesson and then each lesson built on that. My camera is now a source of joy rather than frustration!
I'd love to sign up for the intermediate course - I'll get a deposit transferred today to reserve my spot!
Thanks again :-) Lucy, Beginners
Just like to thank you so much for the fabulous courses I've been on with you over the past 3 years. I've gone from the person who "had a DSLR" to a person who "knows how to use her DSLR".
From the first evening I sat in the room in Redbourne in April 2015, my photography has become an integral part of my life, not only that I've made great friends.
My "journey" from Beginners to Advanced has been a fabulous experience and I'm feeling a little bereft now that I have no where to go on a Thursday evening. So can you do an "Advanced plus"????......lol
Please let me know if you will be doing lightroom classes on an evening any time soon
Thanks again for a fab few years, keep in touch xxx Lynne, Beginners / Intermediate /Advanced
The skills that were learnt during this course have taken me from an absolute novice, to now a competent photographer. Learning not just the functionality of a camera, but truly understanding how to look at a photo, analyse it and learn how to become better with each picture you take. Annie, you have instilled this in me for life! No picture will ever be the same. The lessons were great, each lesson bringing something new to the table, both from Annie’s experience as a professional photographer, to what’s current now in the world of photography. Sharing of best practice was a common theme, as well as critiquing each others photos in a healthy, friendly manor to better improve our skills as individuals and as a group. Links were always posted after each class to useful guides online too, giving you that extra insight if you wanted to delve deeper in to context of the lesson you had been a part of. Also, not to mention that Annie as a teacher, is both inspiring to get the best out of you, but also really knows the intricacies of photography…there was no question she couldn’t answer! It was worth every penny! I would definitely recommend this to friends and family. Of all the sessions that I completed, the valuable information from this course has been priceless for improving my photography skills. I loved the practical side, every lesson that there is theory (and there is plenty), this is followed up by putting it in to practice. When learning how to take photos, and you get to grips with how your camera works to get a great photo, and you take that shot, it’s a great feeling. For me, theory in to practice is what made this course really come to life.
If I had to say anything, I do believe a few more sessions out (potentially optional) would have been great. There is one trip as part of the course, however one or two more really would have been great. My interest is on going now, weeks after the course has finished. I have found myself taking time out to test different scenes for pictures and how to get the best out of my camera. I will also be looking to further advance my skills in the near future by signing up to the intermediate level course that is run.

Dear Annie
I am so thrilled to let you know that I become one of the selected photographers in an international urban photography competition 2018. I have two photos are selected to compete for finalists in July in which I entered 3 of my photos from my project you assigned for us in Intermediate course .
This is another challenge I set for myself followed by the street photography experience I had for the project.
Thank you very much for setting this project for me and it really has pushed me doing something beyond my expectation. I have learnt a lot through the lessons and project. For someone like me who knew nothing about digital photography but can do something like this, I really appreciate your dedication in teaching! Thanks very much !
Regards

Annie is the most amazing, inspiring tutor I have ever had. I feed off her enthusiasm and love of photography. Her lessons are informative, with lots of practical elements. I feel so much more confident to use my camera in Manual mode. She supplies you with so many resources to continue to learn and develop. And you get to go on an amazing night shoot in London. Loved it so much I have already signed up for Intermediate Course. Cannot recommend Annie enough. A* tutor and such a fun person. Thank you Annie.

Having only used a mobile phone to take photos in the past, and now owning a new Compact Digital Camera, our son had insisted that both my wife Jan and I should go on a proper Beginner's Course to learn how to get the best out of our cameras. Good advice and after searching online for a local Beginners Photography Course, came across Annie's and signed up. A brilliant Course run by Annie, full of technical information that was explained very well in every aspect. Annie is so enthusiastic and very informative explaining some complex details in a very simple and clear way. The Course content was excellent and really enjoyed the Portrait session and our nightime visit to London, where we all were able to take some wonderful photos and experiment with some tricks of the trade, using our tripods. You can see how Annie is so passionate about her photography and we have all come away with knowledge to help improve our photos. So glad we did the Course. Highly recommended and thank you Annie!

Annie was on my bucket list and when I came to a time when I needed a different direction in my life, I stopped prevaricating, signed up for the basics digital photography course and I am so glad I did. Before Annie I was strictly an automatic mode and camera phone type of person, always disappointed when I finally looked at what I had taken. I thought I had some good ideas but they never really developed (sorry for the pun). Now I understand what I am trying to achieve and how I need to go about it. Her technique of getting adults to pick up the camera and play with the settings is ideal for those of us who are a little set in their ways. She always found some way to explain how we could achieve our ultimate aim and the lessons never dragged. Considering the amount of time and effort that Annie puts into the sessions, I can safely say they were value for money (apart from the fact I need to buy new a camera and several lenses). I can’t say what I enjoyed the most or the least because it all came as part of the package to learn to pick up the camera and use the ‘M’ mode and not the green square. I’ve signed up for the Intermediate course in September and can’t wait to continue to explore my camera’s settings – it’s not like we’re using precious film.

We signed up for Annie’s beginners course my husband, Pete and I. We really enjoyed and looked forward to Tuesday mornings every week. Sometimes our brains were spinning afterwards, trying to get our minds around ISO, aperture and shutter speeds and which button to press on our cameras but it did go in slowly – well, we are older, retired people! Annie is humorous, energetic, very knowledgeable and encouraging with all her students. The portrait session was something I wasn’t particularly looking forward to but it turned out to be fun, resulting in some great work from everybody. The London Eye trip was fantastic, where we could not only take conventional shots of the Eye but also play with the light from the South Bank area to get some interesting, artistic images.
Pete and I are now going out with our cameras more, especially now the weather is warmer. We will continue consolidating our recently gained knowledge and then we may consider doing the Intermediate Course with Annie next year. We certainly want to go on some of Annie’s day photography trips in the meantime. Annie, we miss you and Tuesday mornings!

Has the course helped you to use your camera more effectively/improved Photographic skills
I only ever used my camera on auto for years, but after being on Annie's course with her help and expert teaching, I was able to understand and use my camera in the different modes it was made for.
Did you find the lessons informative and interesting? Why?
All the lessons were informative & Interesting & great fun. As we were in a small group of seven, it was more like a one to one teaching. All my colleagues in the group were very friendly & a good group to work with.
Do you think the course was good value for money?
The beginners course was very good value, as I learned so much in the 8 weeks, I would recommend it to any beginner who wants to learn Photography.
What did you enjoy most about the course?
I enjoyed learning what i could do with my camera & using all the different modes, allowing me to understand & use my camera properly.
What did you enjoy least?
Nothing, I looked forward to every session & learning something new every week.
How will you continue your interest in Photography and Digital Imaging?
I will be using and experimenting more with my camera & Lens & taking it out more.
Thank you Annie you are a great teacher & it has been a pleasure to have been on the beginners course, where I have learned so much.

Hi Annie,
I signed up for Annie's beginners course on the recommendation of a friend. It has given me a much needed grounding in understanding of what photography is actually about and how we can best use our cameras to capture the beauty of the world we live in. Understanding the basic principles has given me valuable knowledge and an appreciation of what constitutes a great photograph and how to use light to achieve it. My high tech digital camera is now something to enjoy using and am no longer intimidated by the vast array of buttons, menus, modes and so forth.
Annie's unique and fun teaching style made this subject very accessible and the course a highlight of my week. It was great to share my efforts to improve my picture taking skills with other students and to admire their photos and growing skills. The trip up to London was definitely a highlight and to use my tripod to such good effect was particularly satisfying. Thanks for such a fun, inspiring and enjoyable eight weeks!
Many thanks once again. It was a real pleasure to meet you, Sharon and all those on the course. I hope to do more courses with you next year.
Kind regards
Gordon, Beginners
Even though I upgraded my camera early in the course I now understand digital photography so much better now.
Every lesson was very informative the delivery of the lessons was perfect. Information given clearly and delivered in a fun way which always makes learning easier. This course has reignited my interest in photography. I shall miss the weekly lessons but will definitely be coming back for the next course.
The course was worth every penny. From having a digital camera that did loads and was never used to learning how to use it properly. I loved the London trip, learnt so much
I will most certainly be signing up for the intermediate course. Have already got another trip arranged for London for more night time photography and have spoken with other members of the group about having further outings with them. As I say this has reignited my interest in photography. So glad I did the course.
Steve, Autumn 2017
The Learn Digital Photo beginners course had been recommended to me by a friend. We had a DSLR camera in the house which was my husbands and I had no idea how to use it. The course was really well structured and took us through each week’s topics at a good pace which didn’t overwhelm us. I really loved the evening out in London. I would like to carry on to do the intermediate course as I now want to learn more. I think I have the photography bug! Thanks Annie.”
Susie, Summer 2017
I thoroughly enjoyed the Beginners digital photography course. It exceeded all my expectations. The course was very carefully planned and well structured ensuring that each weekly lesson was interesting and enjoyable. Annie’s teaching style is very engaging. The homework was fun and rewarded with valuable feedback making sure none of us got lost on the way! I now have a good understanding of my camera and what it is capable of. I know how to assess my own photos and what to do to get better results. I am looking forward to enrolling on the intermediate course next year and learning some more tricks! Thank you Annie. You are a great teacher!
Caroline, Summer 2017
I have always been a slave to the ‘Full Auto’ setting and never been prepared to venture away from this as I had no understanding of what the various modes actually did.
I have not used ‘Full Auto’ since the first lesson and now the camera remains in the ‘Manual Mode’ at all times, with some confidence on being able to achieve a reasonable exposure within a couple of goes.
The lessons were logically structured even when the subject area may have appeared a little complex. The pace, flow and humour were always appropriate to the whole class and in the event that a student had not grasped the explanation first time, the explanation was revised from another direction to ensure good understanding by everyone.
I loved the the pace of the course, the hands on approach all-round (take a photo of me with these settings, then with these settings…. what do you notice?), also the field trip to London really allowed for confidence to grow in what you could achieve.
There was nothing I didn't like ..All good!!
During the course I needed to catalogue and photograph some family items urgently. I had no hesitation about taking all exposures in Manual Mode and producing exposures suitable for what I needed.
My camera now sits in Manual Mode!!
I would like to progress with the intermediate course and develop my understanding further.
In the interim, I will begin to carry my camera with me using opportunities to get it out and get creative!!
Simon, Autumn 2017
Has the course helped you to use your camera more effectively/improved Photographic skills?
I have owned a DSLR for many years but only used Auto mode and was frustrated at some of the results. Anne’s teaching has shown how interesting it is to use all the semi auto and manual modes of the camera
I am now always armed with my camera when I am out for my walks
I now see the world with a new eye and am always trying to find a good subject to photograph.
I have not used the Auto mode since I completed this course and been having fun trying to practice all that I have learnt during the course.
Did you find the lessons informative and interesting? Why?
The lessons have been fun but at the same time serious and sharing with the colleagues and learning from each other has been an enthralling experience.
The small size of the class has made it easier to share knowledge and discuss with other colleagues.
Anne and Sharon made it fun while practising all different modes of shooting.
Do you think the course was good value for money?
The Beginner’s course was a present from my children and it has been the best present I have received. 8 weeks have flown by !
What did you enjoy most about the course?
I enjoyed learning about all the manual modes and for me being able to take better Landscape and Architecture photos.
The night shoots session was the best!!
What did you enjoy least?
For me the portrait session as I didn’t like modelling myself ..
How will you continue your interest in Photography and Digital Imaging?
Definitely look forward to register for the Intermediate Course and keep practising what I have learnt in the meantime. Keeti, Autumn 2017
I have recently completed the Beginners Learn Digital Photo course in Redbourn with Annie Kelly which has been fantastic. The course is split over a number of tutorials which are given by the ever enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoyable Annie who guides her students through the different aspects of digital photography. When I started the course I only used the AUTO setting but now, having completed the course I mainly use the MANUAL setting as a result of understanding how the different aspects of the camera work together. The highlights of the course were the practical sessions, homework where you trial different skills and my fellow students who were lovely. Thanks to Annie and the other students the 2.5 hour weekly sessions were a joy, full of fun and discussion. We also, as a group, spent a cold evening in London photographing the London Eye trying to get that perfect nightscape. Cold but great fun. During the course Annie also covers many other aspects of the Digital Photography environment and technicalities all of which gives the student a very rounded knowledge of the topic. It certainly has helped with my latest camera purchase as I now know what I need and why.
As such, I would recommend this course to anyone who is starting out and wanting to learn how to use their camera above and beyond the AUTO option. I have already booked onto the Intermediate course and I'm really looking forward to it !!! Chris G, Autumn 2017
Has the course helped you to use your camera more effectively/improved photographic skills? The camera was new to me, so I didn’t really know it. The course enabled me to explore the camera settings in a controlled way so I was able to find my way around the menus and understand what the settings meant without being overwhelmed.
Did you find the lessons informative and interesting? Why? Each lesson was well paced and interesting. Basic concepts were introduced a simple way and then developed into something you really needed to think about. After the first lesson I thought things were going to be easy, after the second I wasn’t so sure and by the third I was really needing to think and was pleased that this wasn’t an ‘easy’ course. When you step out of the classroom you immediately look at the world around you in a different light and really think hard about what would make an interesting picture.
Do you think the course was good value for money? Yes, it’s worth every penny!
What did you enjoy most about the course? It was a good pace – not too fast, not to slow. It was good to be grouped with people with the same camera. The feedback and seeing other people’s photos on Flickr was great. Doing short practical activities and having set homework helped embed new concepts and meant that you had to get out with the camera during the week. The trip to London was a great experience and I think we all took good pictures.
What did you enjoy least? Nothing
How will you continue your interest? I plan to do the intermediate course in the summer. I’ve put a whole lot of photographic gear and books on my Christmas list!
Please let me know when you are taking bookings for the intermediate day-time course as I definitely want to do it.
Hilary, Autumn 2017
I was recommend to Learn Digital Photography by a friend who completed several courses and spoke highly of Annie's teaching methods. I have just completed the beginners course myself as was blow away by how much I actually learned. I now have a complete understanding of how my camera works and why I was not getting the results I wanted. Annie really makes you think about capturing the light and why/how to choose settings to compensate this. This type of learning (theory and practical hands on) really does make the knowledge sink in. I have completed other photography courses and not learned anywhere near as much. I cant wait to start the intermediate course!
Chris,Autumn 2017
I found the beginner's course very helpful, the step by step teaching method helped me to remember all instructions and tips more easily and I also got support on how to use my camera effectively. Uploaded photos on Flickr is a special way of learning, a way to improve myself by reading the comments by Annie and others, it I was very encouraging.
I never felt bored in lessons with the informative lectures with interactive study in the class. It helped me to digest all information in a more easy way.
It is good value for money.
I really enjoyed going out with the whole class and learnt how to take photos at night with slow shutter speed and I can now use aperture, shutter speed and ISO work together to produce good photos.
I can’t think of anything I didn’t enjoy!
I am considering to join the intermediate class to further my learning. I am now enjoy taking my camera out with me to capture any moment.
Christina, Autumn 2017
Just finished the Beginners' course and have progressed from being an iPhone/totally automatic mode photographer to using semi auto and manual settings, understanding the what and why of my camera and learning how to take photos in all sorts of situations including outdoors, at night and in a studio with some ideas about creative techniques thrown in too. Annie is a superb teacher: knowledgeable, engaging, enthusiastic and fun. Have loved every minute. Can't recommend highly enough. Julie, Summer 2017
I searched numerous photography courses looking to find one that I thought would teach me the basics, having always left my camera in Auto mode up to now wondering what all the dials and buttons meant! Annie's Beginners course really appealed, small class sizes, a different aspect of the camera/photography each week and then a trip and portrait session included. Having just completed the course I can honestly say it was one of the best things I have done. I feel excited to take photos and experiment and find myself looking at everything in this world now as a potential photo! Don't be fooled, this course is full on with homework each week as there is a lot to cover, however it was also fun and relaxed and Annie is a great teacher. The sessions are part theory part practical and the trip and portrait session were great fun. I am already booked on the intermediate course in the Autumn. If you're hesitating about booking a course with Annie, don't, just do it! Nicky, Summer 2017
Sometimes someone comes along who not only can teach you something new but can open up something completely different in your life, and inspire you to go in a new direction. Annie at Learndigitalphoto Annkelly is the most fabulous photography teacher. She will push you to learn more than you even knew there was to learn about your camera and about photography, she will challenge you, she doesn't take any hostages (!), but she might change your life (or maybe just your view on it). These are no bog-standard how-to classes, they are fun, they are intense, they make your brain hurt, they are rewarding - and they even have biscuits at coffee time! If you have a dslr and you're stuck in Automatic mode, get yourself on one of her courses. You won't regret it. Thank you Annie. Jo Summer 2017
Fantastic photography course. I had invested in a good camera 2 years ago but without any knowledge I could hardly use it unless it was on auto. Even then I couldn't guarantee what my photos would turn out like.
Annie's class environment gave me the technical knowledge I needed in an easy to understand format with lots of laughter along the way.
I had a couple of big light bulb moments where I really started to understand how to use my camera and I am now shooting confidently on manual mode and get the most of each scene in shooting. I no longer need to worry or get frustrated about how my photos will turn out.
Will definitely look into taking the intermediate course soon! Gareth"
Gareth, Summer 2017
I have done two of these courses. You don't realise how much you are learning. They are really good. I would thoroughly recommend them, Vicky, Summer 2017
Annie's method of teaching what could be a very technical and ‘dry’ subject, is a clever mix of simplistic (and therefor understandable) explanations and illustrations of technical issues, coupled with lots of hands on practical applications, patience, encouragement and humour, making it work for people of all abilities across a wide range of camera types. For the first time in many years of SLR use, I now know what all the buttons and settings that I had paid for but never used, do and mean, and I can’t wait to put it all into practice. In short, a great course, excellent value for money, Annie is an excellent teacher and best of all it was great fun. I have already signed up for the Intermediate course!
Nigel, Summer 2017
Wow, I don't really know how to say it but thank you once again for 3 amazing courses. The beginners made me walk away desperate to get more, the intermediate helped me look at my images more positively and gave me more creativity but, boom, the advanced course was just amazing. Everything you taught us for the first 2 courses all comes together and it's the cheeky little skill set of the advanced sessions that make it so enjoyable.
I've left each week with my brain going over time and a buzz to check out my images and play with new things at home. Then yesterday was the final jigsaw puzzle piece and I've got a new project all mapped out for me.
Once again thank you so much for your time and dedication to helping people create images with that silly black box but also your inspiration and energy to giving your students the confidence to achieve something they only wished about before joining the learn digital photo beginners course.
I'd love to hear about any workshops you decide to offer.
Fay, Spring 2017
The course definitely improved my relationship with my camera - I now have a better understanding of how to navigate around the different functions (of which there are many!) and not afraid to try out things. I learnt how to use the tripod
I the lessons flew past! - Very informative, well paced with sufficient time for each topic. The workbook + the study space portal added to the learning - especially all the links. Even though and no quibble on the cost of the course -
I enjoyed the London eye evening - even though it was freezing - and of course the photo shoot! What I enjoyed most was the learning by step by step progression on what we can do with the camera - ISO has opened up a whole new world for me.
Bindu, Spring 2016
Hi Annie,
It's crazy where the last 9 weeks have gone. It doesn't feel like 2 minutes since our first lesson - time flies when you're having fun!
I loved every second of your course. I've done an intense half-day course in London before and there was absolutely no comparison. Your fun and interactive methods make learning about photography so much easier. Plus, breaking the course into weekly chunks means you can practice what you've learnt in between - practice makes perfect right? I'm not scared of manual mode anymore, hurrah!
I'm really looking to continue putting everything we've learnt into practice. It's my brother's wedding next week so there's a perfect first opportunity of many more to come.
I'm really keen to do your intermediate course.
Many thanks again Annie, you're an amazing, inspiring and incredibly talented woman!
Laura, Spring Beginners '17
Hi Annie, Thank you very much for your time effort and patience you gave myself and the rest of the pm Thurs beg spring 17 group in our class and on Flickr. I do hope to attend another one of your classes when I can. Really enjoyed your style wouldn’t change anything except maybe the tea and biscuits for wine and beer!. A Very Big Thank you once again and all the best for the future until our paths cross again Dave, Spring Beginners '17
I truly can not thank Annie enough for how her courses have helped to improve my photography! I started her beginners course having done several courses before hers, some paying as much as I did for this one, however I came away with a completely different knowledge and understanding and taking photos I'm proud off! The way in which Annie teaches really suits my way of learning! I couldn't wait to to do my "homework" each week and put into practice what we had learnt that week! Being able to upload my work for the group to see and to get the feedback was excellent also. I really can not recommend both of Annie's courses enough! I have learnt so much! I can't wait to do her advanced course!
Thank you Annie, Sally Intermediate Course, Autumn 2016
Hey Annie, I don't travel anywhere with out imy camera now I have learned how to use my camera effectively.
I found the lessons really well explained and a key tool for taking my skills further with ideas and the valuable knowledge from the course.
Ann Kelly is a very talented Photographer and her enthusiasm and dedication to her teaching to her students is paramount.
Terry, Intermedaite Course, Autumn 2016
Has the course helped you to use your camera more effectively/ improved Photographic skills?
hell yes! I had never even owned a camera like this before, it was either my iPhone or a point and click thing.
Did you find the lessons informative and interesting? Why?
they were indeed informative, funny, interesting and very user friendly.
There were a lot of different ways that information was put across, and it was reassuring to be able to go away, let it all sink in and know that if I got stuck I could still shout for help from an email.
Do you think the course was good value for money?
Yes. I did worry about paying out for this course, but it really was worth it for the sheer amount of learning in the 8 weeks, that's given me the confidence to get out there and have fun with it.
What did you enjoy most about the course?
Pretty much all of it. I loved the trip out, and all the other practical stuff, but I also enjoyed the challenges, too.
What did you enjoy least?
I dreaded the portrait wk, but managed to enjoy it in the end, and it certainly made you think about being in the other shoes of someone being photographed
How will you continue your interest in Photography and Digital Imaging?
To continue to meet up with other group members, date already sorted!
To get out and about and put things into practise.
To sign up to the next course.
Jo, Beginners Autumn '16
Has the course helped you to use your camera more effectively/ improved Photographic skills?
The course has taught me so much, I now have my camera set mainly on manual, aperture priority or shutter speed priority but never again will it be on automatic.
Did you find the lessons informative and interesting? Why?
I loved all the technical side of the course, understanding all the different settings and what you can achieve by just making small changes, I was amazed at the differences it could make to the photographs, although I think I needed to be a bit braver with my changes, I will certainly be experimenting in the future.
Do you think the course was good value for money?
Definitely and I love Annies style of teaching.
What did you enjoy most about the course?
All of it, Annies course structure was spot on, the depth of knowledge she has is amazing and her teaching is brilliant.
What did you enjoy least?
I least enjoyed the class where we talked about backing up photos as I already knew about that.
How will you continue your interest in Photography and Digital Imaging?
Intermediate class!!
Joanne Beginners, Autumn '16
Has the course helped you to use your camera more effectively/ improved Photographic skills?
…Absolutely! Before taking the course I only knew how to use the ‘green button’ which I now haven’t used since starting the course!I have thoroughly enjoyed doing the beginners course with Learn Digital Photo, I have learnt so much and feel much more confident about using my camera in manual mode and I am starting to produce some really great results. So much so that I have already booked on to the intermediate course as I know I will not only enjoy the course but will further develop my photography skills.
Do you think the course was good value for money?
…I hate to say that I think it was incredible value for money as you will put up your prices
Annie is a wonderful teacher with a fountain of knowledge and has a brilliant way of sharing that.
What did you enjoy most about the course?
I got so excited when I was able to take photos that I would never believed I could e.g. night pictures at the London eye
What did you enjoy least?
…The course was only 8 weeks long and now it has finished!
How will you continue your interest in Photography and Digital Imaging?
…Intend to get my camera out every week and just try different things
Natalie, Beginners Autumn, '16
Did you find the lessons informative and interesting? Why?
…Loved the way you explained the technical’stuff’ in such simple language – a true sign of someone who completely understands their subject
I am looking forward to seeing you in September.
Jane Haywood, Beginners Summer '16
Has the course helped you to use your camera more effectively/ improved Photographic skills? Yes.
Did you find the lessons informative and interesting? Why? Yes. Annie make each lesson fun and relevant. Although you cover technical aspects it's done in a practical way that means you put everything into practice immediately. This tests your understanding and allows you to ask questions and get answers in a very friendly environment.
Do you think the course was good value for money? Yes, fantastic, especially with the feedback you get from posting your photos on Flickr. It's a really well organised and taught course and it is clear that Annie has had teaching training and experience.
What did you enjoy most about the course? I really enjoyed doing the project, it meant I had to get out there and think about all the skills I had learned and apply them.
What did you enjoy least? Not being able to sleep after each lesson because I was excited about putting my skills into practice
How will you continue your interest in Photography and Digital Imaging? I will definitely be setting myself projects to continue using my skills and push myself on to the next level with research.
Caroline, Intermedaite course Autumn '16
"Thanks Annie for two great courses. I have always loved taking photos but was only ever able to use auto mode. Now, after two short courses, I feel I am able to use manual mode confidently. Understanding the settings and the relationship light has with photography is key and Annie's courses are created perfectly to ensure you gain a clear understanding through tutorials, demonstrations and practical sessions. Having this understanding of my digital camera has now given me the opportunity to take really amazing photographs that I will treasure for years to come. I have thoroughly enjoyed Annie's digital photography courses and really cannot recommend them highly enough! Thanks Annie.
Sandra, Beginners & Intermediate courses 2016
I recently attended Annie's Intermediate Course after completing and totally loving the Beginners Course and as usual it didn't fail to deliver Annie's enthusiasm and love for photography.
It is a much more creative and practical course allowing you to put to use all those valuable skills learnt on the beginners course along with learning more fantastic skills and tips to improve your photography along the way. My photography has improved beyond my expectations and it's all down to Annie and her wonderful style of teaching. Never a dull moment, even when learning the most mind boggling of photography skills, Annie keeps it all interesting and leaves you wanting to learn more and more.
I would not hesitate to recommend Annie and her courses. Best thing I have ever done.
Thanks so much Annie, keeping an eye out for your advanced course!!!
Jenny, Summer Intermedaite 2016
Hi Ann
I just want to say what a brilliant course you run. I now know how to get the most out of my camera and feel confident in using different functions to take better photos.Your style of teaching was informative ,fun and inspirational and the comments posted on Flickr always encouraging. The homework assignments were a great way of putting into practice the techniques discussed in the classroom . The London trip was great with practical advice whilst shooting on location and producing some great shots of the city. I am now looking to upgrade my camera and won’t be baffled by some camera geek going on about f stops and EV compensation. I look forward to enrolling on the intermediate course in the future.
Thanks again

Hi Annie ..
Wow ….. where did those 8 very enjoyable weeks go , I would like to take this opportunity to say a few words of thanks .
For anyone reading this message who would like to take up photography and learn about your camera ,it’s settings and how to take decent photographs then this lady is the person to go to , I learnt more in the 8 weeks than I could ever have imagined and I am certain that I will be going onto the next level course.
Derek, Beginners, Summer 2016
Annie has a great way of teaching , she really does have a way of interacting with you/the class , her personality is very infectious and makes the whole process a delight , she also gets the group working together and this in-turn helps during group sessions , I was lucky in having 9 other people who were also willing to learn and work together ….. thank-you to all
The Flickr site she sets up for placement of your photographs is a fantastic idea as we all love to view and comment on pictures , this is also a great way of seeing your fellow students work and the settings they have used … brilliant .
Many thanks Annie ….. and new friends.

I'll practice what I've learned and be back for the intermediate level next year
Thanks for everything

I can't recommend Learn Digital Photo enough. I've recently completed the beginners course and now I want to know more! I'll definitely be signing up for the intermediate course next year. I found Annie's visual and practical approach to the subject totally engrossing. Each two and a half hour lesson seemed to be over in the blink of an eye! I am a visual learner and you can see that Annie has put a lot of thought and effort into her audio-visual teaching methods. Being able to access all the course material online was a massive boon to me too as being on the autistic spectrum I find it easier to absorb information when alone. The online info really helped to jog my memory about what was taught in the class, so much so that there wasn't much need to make my own notes during the class. We were also given folders containing most of the course info. Of course, the best way to learn is by actually using our cameras and there was plenty of opportunity for that. There was one session I was dreading though... portraits. We had to be on both sides of the camera. I expressed my concerns to Annie but I needn't have worried because she dealt with the anxious amongst us with understanding, compassion, and humour. I wasn't expecting such an entertaining course! Do yourself a favour and book, you'll love it!
Kai Beginners, Summer 2016
Thank you so much Annie! Like the Beginners course you continued to challenge and inspire us on Intermediates with your knowledge and infectious enthusiasm! So much so that I was somewhat ambitious with my choice of project but, as you would say, I got over it and got on with it and was so pleased I had stuck with the challenge! We also had such a lovely group and it was great to share in each others' journeys . Looking forward to joining you on one of the day trips you organise. Thanks again!

Thank you again Annie, it's been a great 16 weeks. I'm going to miss using my brain on a Tuesday morning.
Here's my feedback for you:
Annie's beginner's course was fantastic, over the 8 weeks she taught me so much about how to actually use the camera (all those buttons & dials!), and to give me the confidence to go out there and try different types of photography. So it was a no-brainer to sign straight up for the intermediate course, and I haven't regretted a single minute of it. Whereas the beginner's course had taught me technicalities, the intermediate course was about style and creativity (as well as plenty of new techniques to master). It was particularly "the project" which was the biggest learning curve, but it made me work out of my comfort zone and I enjoyed the process of putting together my own work. Annie is incredibly enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and encouraging. She is very relaxed and this makes the class environment enjoyable and open. Thank you Annie for an incredible experience, I will miss my Tuesdays, I promise instead to use this time to keep taking photos!!
Emma, Beginners and Intermediate course 2016
Hi Annie
Thank you so much for a brilliant course and for your patience!
I learnt so much thank you and have gone from being an absolute beginner to at least having an understanding of everything and where to find it
Now to practise practise practise
Kind regards

Hi Annie,
Thank you so much for your inspirational photography intermediate course. Tuesdays are now not going to be the same now that the course has finished.
After the Beginners course I was getting to grips with using manual mode, but now I use nothing else, and have a bank of other techniques to put into practice as well. This has taken my photography to a new level.
Thanks to this course I have a new passion and something that I delight in. The course was challenging but gave us time to practice our skills. You have some fab lighting equipment which was great to be able to dabble with. I particularly enjoyed the still life session and the portrait re-colouring session. A lot of fun and so professional. The project was a daunting part of the course but a delight to be able to share what everyone had produced. I can see ways in which my photography can be continued on my own with a purpose - which is exciting too.
Anne-Marie, Beginner and Intermediate courses 2016
A brilliant, thought provoking course. I’ve dabbled with photography for many years, and whilst I thought I had some understanding of Shutter Speed and Apertures my best photos were more luck than judgment. If I didn’t get the shot I wanted I didn’t know how to adjust my camera to get the result I wanted. Thanks to Annie I’m now much better at getting the results I want.
Annie’s training style strikes a perfect balance of guidance, advice and teaching that allows you plenty of time to absorb and practise what you’ve learned. Her exuberant style is infectious, and I’m now enjoying my photography so much more. I can’t really believe how much I’ve learned in such a short space of time!
I’ve already signed up for the Intermediate Course and can’t wait to get started.
Would I recommend Annie’s course to others? Without hesitation!
Mark, Beginners, Spring 2016
My reasons why this course was the best one I’ve ever done. In list format. You’re welcome.
1. I had ‘proper’ time to engage in the lesson
Its great doing an hour of something a week. Lifes busy, I get that. But 2.5 is awesome. It really gets you into a topic (or two) and gives you time to think about it. Not only that but it gives you just enough to want to know more – so you actually do your homework!
2. Learning something new each week
Each week was a new challenge. And I don’t say that lightly, some weeks really were a challenge. Its important to push your brain though, and that moment a few weeks later when it all clicks is a big thing.
3. I had a great tutor
Ann was incredible. Those of you who know me know full well I don’t do praise particularly well. Sarcasm – yep I’m your gal, but genuine praise – you’re better off finding someone else. But seriously though, Ann is an excellent tutor. Not only does she have a real passion for the subject, a very cool style of photography herself and years of experience, but she’s also an interesting and engaging teacher. Interspersed with her opinions on society, anecdotes from her career and plenty of feedback (the good the bad and the ugly) she was outstanding. You need a great tutor to really develop you and your style.
4. The practical classes
If you’re considering a photography course, do one with practical classes. You end up with stunning photos that you’d never have known how to get previously, and real hands on experience – as well as ‘live’ feedback. The learn digital photography course has two of these – one in London at the eye, and another portrait class. Both I thoroughly enjoyed.
5. I actually took something out of it!
I actually know now how to use my DSLR that I paid a sizeable chunk for. Not only that, but I actually want to use it! I’m desperate to get out with it and practise (travelling is a great excuse) and I’m thrilled when my shots look how I wanted, or even when the EV is on the zero. I know that, much like riding a bike, that knowledge is going no where and i’ll use it regularly. Which leads me onto…
6. Value
My course cost me in the region of £280 I can’t remember exactly, but it was worth Every. Single. Penny. In reality its probably cost me more as I now have a hankering for a few additional lenses… maybe a third tripod… etc etc. However it really has reignited my love for photography, and I couldnt really put a price on that?
So would I recommend doing a course? For sure. Would I recommend Ann's course? Absolutely. And if you can’t commute to Redbourn – try harder. Or at least look for a course with a decent chunk of time each week, and constant feedback from a great tutor. It will make the world of difference.

https://barrowsmithblogs.wordpress.com/2016/03/30/why-i-loved-my-photography-course-and-some-of-my-pics/
Ann, Thanks for a really enjoyable course. You said our photography would go up a few gears & it did! The Intermediate course was more challenging than the Beginners, a whole range of techniques that I had never used before (ie RAW, HDR, Macro, BW & spot metering etc). But the best part of the Intermediate course for me, was the "Project" as it really motivated me to get out there with my camera & try out new techniques & ideas. And it was equally beneficial to see other pupils styles & preferences develop & how they tackled their ideas & projects. Considering I was struggling for 2 years after purchasing my camera, I now feel confident I know my way around my camera & given any environment or situation. That is a real testament to your teaching qualities & style. As an analogy how many great footballers make great managers? Not many & the same applies to great photographers. But with your skills, depth of knowledge of photography, you can also translate your experience & learning. You have a real quality of striking the right balance of being firm & motivational, whilst also making the lessons fun & enjoyable. As a teacher your job is to plant the seeds & give us the tools for us to grow & develop. Prior to both courses, I can clearly see that my photography has come on leaps & bounds! So a big thank you for all your support & continuous critique throughout the course. If you cant execute the images you want or are only utilising 20% of your camera's potential, what's the point? Considering how much we all spend on camera's & equipment, the cost of the course was real value for money. Thanks again.
Jim, Spring, Intermediate course, 2016
Hi Annie, This is the first time that I’ve had chance to sit down and thank you for such a fantastic course. I’ve fumbled around with cameras for years, but it’s only in the past eight weeks that, thanks to you, that I’ve realised that it’s all about capturing light and time. You skilfully taught us all that this can be captured through the relationship between ISO, shutter speed and aperture……..I used to think of days as either sunny or dull. I now consider them in ISO and I’m glad to say that auto mode shall never dwell on my camera again! I really enjoyed each week on the beginners course and I am really looking forward to the intermediate. Thanks again for a brilliant course.
Will, Beginners , Spring 2016
Annie, I've been trying to think how to express just how much I've enjoyed the course.
It was great to learn in such a friendly relaxed atmosphere and your enthusiasm and the way you presented the course was really engaging.
Thank you for all your encouragement which really helped me to gain confidence and a determination not to give up.Can't wait to start back again in a few weeks on the Intermediate Course.
Julia Beginners , Spring 2016
Can't wait to start back again in a few weeks. Thanks so much for the beginners course Annie. I felt very anxious about enrolling but I have thoroughly enjoyed it to the extent I have now enrolled onto the intermediate course (feeling a bit apprehensive about that too but I know it will be fun). I now feel like I'm in control of my camera rather than the other way around and I can now manage to capture the images the way I want to. It's a very liberating and exhilarating feeling. I would now never consider taking photographs in any other way than via manual mode and I doubted that that was ever possible. Worth every penny and more, a snippet at only the fraction of the cost of camera equipment. I would highly recommend Annie's beginners course.
Kind regards
Ewa Beginners, Spring 2016
Hi Annie,
thank you so much for this second fantastic course. I could never have imagined that when I joined the beginner's course last year and the intermediate this year, that I would get away from the automatic option on my camera. You have been truly inspirational and my photography has improved so much, although I still make so many mistakes :) . I need more time to practise, but you have given me the skills to explore and go further with my photography. Not just holiday snaps for me anymore, but more thought-out images where I have thought about composition and lighting.
Again, thank you very much, keep up the fabulous work and maybe see you on future courses or meetings.
Marie-Ange, Intermediate course, 2016
Hi Annie,
Thank you so much for being a fabulous teacher. I really enjoyed the course and I have really missed not going today!!
I can't wait to do the next one. You made it all so much fun and interesting to learn. Your passion for photography really shines through in your teaching. Your enthusiasm for it was really catching. Great course, great teacher and superb value. I am just so proud that I can now go out and take pictures using my camera properly and for the first time I have been able to take a picture on my compact camera which always got put on 'Auto'....not any more and all thanks to you!!!
Thank you again and I look forward to seeing you again in April.
Jenny Beginners, Spring 2016
Incredible course Annie - thank you so much! In our first lesson you told us to "take a photo the way you usually would" ... frankly I felt like reaching for my iPhone! One beginners course later and I now know significantly more than just where the on button is - all possible because of your style of teaching and infectious enthusiasm for photography. A fantastic course - am already signed up for the next one!
Sara, Beginners Spring 2016
Many thanks to you and Janine for a very enjoyable course - very informative, practical, & fun - all delivered at a good pace and in a language I could understand - I learnt lots!
The course definitely improved my relationship with my camera - i now have a better understanding of how to navigate around the different functions (of which there are many!) and not afraid to try out things and i learnt how to use my tripod .
The lessons flew past and they were very informative, well paced with sufficient time for each topic. The workbook + the studyspace portal added to the learning - especially all the links. I particularly made notes of the tips that you imparted on all the various topics to give us more confidence in taking better photos and no quibble on the cost of the course -
I enjoyed the London eye evening - even though it was freezing - and of course the photo shoot! What i enjoyed most was the learning by step by step progression on what we can do with the camera - ISO has opened up a whole new world for me.
Bindu, Beginners Spring 2016
Over 2 years I had read many books & understood some of the theories & concepts on photography, but couldn't translate this into good creative images. I knew my camera was capable of great things, so the weak link was me! So I enrolled on Ann's Beginners Class. Ann's practical hands on course was exactly what I needed, as reading is not my learning style. Ann has a wealth of knowledge & experience to tap into & is truly passionate about photography and has an infectious teaching style that makes learning fun. Through the mixture of demonstrations, examples, tips & being shown what to do, I finally got to grips with what my camera & how to operate it. If you really want to get the most out of your camera & photography, this course is priceless". Thanks again & see you on 19th January for the Intermediate Course.
Jim, Beginners PM Autumn 2015
Hi Annie
I have absolutely loved the course and really going to miss my Thursday evenings with you all.
I was really nervous, but excited, about joining the course that I wouldn't be able to understand it all but you made it all so clear. You can read many books which tell you how to take a photo but actually being told what to do with the camera in your hand made it so much clearer.
Going out into London and the portrait sessions were the sessions I looked forward to the most and they didn't disappoint. I have the bug and constantly looking for places to go and practise everything you taught me. I also have a new addiction, Flickr, i find myself checking it out every day. Not to mention checking out jessops and day dreaming over the amazing photos I could take with all those cameras and lenses.
Thank you so much for everything it was a pleasure and I'll be in touch about the immediate course.
Fay, Beginners PM, Autumn 2015
Hi Annie,
Sadly, I have just completed the Beginners photography course with Annie and am suffering withdrawal symptoms! Tuesday's became the highlight of my week! Annie was inspirational , challenging and fun and I was hooked after the first 5 minutes. The course has given me the skills to use my camera, to create some amazing effects and to look at the world through different eyes. Her teaching style and her passion for photography is infectious and I now have a new skill which completely absorbs me. The course is great value for money; having looked around and talked to others, I don't think there is anything around like it.
Anne - Marie Autumn AM
Hi Annie,
Want to say again how much I enjoyed the course, it really hit the nail on the head with what I wanted to learn. All the sessions were informative and fun, I especially enjoyed our portrait class. It has definitely increased my confidence with a camera and how to get the results I’ve wanted for so long. Thank you.
Steve PM Beginners Autumn 2015
Hi Annie,
Thank you so much for the course, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Your passion for photography is as infectious as it is inspiring. I found I was coming home from the course each week itching to get out and practice the most recent thing I had learnt. I'm delighted by what I have achieved during the course and it was great to be taught by someone who is so enthusiastic about sharing their skills and knowledge.
I am very interested in carrying on to do your intermediate course.
Many thanks for all your energy and enthusiasm,
Lucy, Beginners PM, Autumn 2015
Hi Annie,
Thank you and Janine!
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Annie’s Beginner Course to anyone who is considering it. Annie is an energetic, entertaining and confident educationalist who fills pupils (…we were the mostly 50+ group!) with confidence and knowledge to start to use their digital camera’s to their full potential. I signed up for the course just wanting to understand how to work my new digital camera, and not to only take pictures in auto mode. Annie’s helper Janine was patient and encouraging and I now feel liberated and enlighted, and am delighted with the results already!
Gill, Beginners AM Autumn 2015
Dear Annie,
I liked our group and you teaching us; and I will certainly have "withdrawal symptoms" in the next couple of weeks as teaching and learning are of course social processes where the demarcation lines (habitually heavily guarded) between "self" and "other" become unusually blurred - this is the productive issue of re-focussing, in particular when the students are of a mature age!
You have been very successful in making us photographically literate and giving us the confidence to use our cameras in creative ways. Most of all, you instilled in many of us the desire to go further, learn more, and explore the visual dimension of our lives. You sent us on the way. Thank you for this.
Werner, Beginners AM, Autumn 2015
“You're an inspirational and passionate teacher. Thanks for all you've shown me it has enriched my life and made me view the world through the eyes of a photographer. It takes a unique person to show beauty in a fork's shadow!
You worked with my disability in an inclusive and low key way that made me feel able. I will miss it deeply. Met some wonderful people who I will keep in contact with. It was a privilege to have studied with you. When the student is ready the teacher will appear. I'm so glad it was you.”
Ian, Intermediate, Autumn 2015
I thoroughly enjoyed the beginners photography course. Annie is an engaging and dynamic teacher. The classes are a good mix of theory and practical application and I can say that Annie held my attention at all times during the classes. On completion of the course, I can say that I can now confidently shoot my DSLR in manual mode and understand what I need to change (ISO, aperture, shutter speed) in order to capture the image I am trying to shoot! Prior to the course, I had no idea what any of the buttons on my camera were, other than A for auto mode! My highlight of the 8 week course was the trip to London. I would highly recommend Annie's beginners course for those wanting to understand digital photography and how to use their camera. Thanks!

I want to thank you and your very patient assistant Dan for the most amazing photography course . Every lesson I walked out thinking I can't wait to try my new skill . My highlight was the London trip and the Portrait session was a great experience . We had a great group and I hope we all keep in contact and keep showing our new skills on our Flickr group . I will be signing up for the intermediate course .. I'm hooked on photography now Ann Kelly. Margaret Beginners Summer 2015
Annie has a real gift for sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience in a way that is easy to understand. Camera manuals can seem either dry or intimidating - Annie's lessons are neither !
Fantastic value for money, if you do happen to find yourself on a waiting list, then all I can say is, her courses are most definitely worth the wait !
K.Smith, Beginners Summer 2015
'I loved the intermediate course! Having to complete a project helped me to become intimate with my camera and as a result I have become a better photographer. Ann does a great job of inspiring people to develop their photographic skills; she gives regular constructive feedback and the class environment is stimulating and encouraging. I recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in photography and wants to learn in a non-threatening environment.
Emaese, Intermediate Summer 2015
Thank you for providing a fantastic course. My only regret is that I didn't get to thank you in person on our last night. You have given me a terrific insight into the world of photography and a great foundation that I must build on. I will not forget you and your admirable relentless passion for the art.
I must go now to capture some light and if the light I capture is good enough I’ll share it on flickr.
To say thank you a million times doesn't seem to be enough.I wish you all the best.
Mark, Intermediate Summer 2015
I enrolled on the course because of my burning desire to learn how to take great photographs and Learn Digital did not disappoint and surpassed my expectations. The little knowledge that I had of the subject was striped back at the very first lesson, right back to the basics of how a camera works.
Everyone is taught on the same level and Annie’s ability to do this is evident from her years of teaching experience. Annie uses wonderful resources and backs-up the theory and technical information with practical work that she takes the time to guide you through.
The course is continuous throughout the eight weeks due to the homework, feedback, helpful hints/tips that Annie provides. I can honestly say that by enrolling on the Beginner’s Course you are not just buying a course but buying into a lifetime of experience and have fun along the way.
Mark Bennett, Beginners Spring 2015
I just wanted to put in writing my huge thanks to you for teaching me how to use my camera! In such a short time, I feel I've learnt so much - you covered everything I need to know to start me on a path of taking interesting photos (rather than the usual family/friends shots), and have given me an enthusiasm to continue and to improve. Everywhere I go now, I am looking for a photo opportunity!
Your method of teaching was perfect for a complete novice such as myself, but never in a patronising fashion. You explained everything clearly and having not been in a learning environment for literally YEARS, I managed to understand and retain everything with ease.
Thank you so much!
Sally, Beginners Spring 2015
I can’t say enough positive things about this course. I loved it, and like all things that you enjoy, the time whizzed past.
Annie’s enthusiasm is infectious; she is extremely knowledgeable and is always on hand to help if you get stuck. She uses lots of different methods to teach the subject and has some powerful examples on hand to illustrate the different photographic techniques. The sessions are interactive and she sets up practical sets before the class starts so you get to immediately try out what you have learnt. But best of all she makes the sessions fun.
Jo, Spring Intermediate 2015
The beginner course has undoubtedly helped me to use my dslr camera more effectively and has improved my photographic skills no end.- I actually now know what I'm doing and more importantly WHY I'm doing it. Lessons are very informative & interesting - a good blend of theory and practical on the beginner course.
The Studyspace VLE is great, loads of links to really helpful and interesting stuff.
I Found the course very good value for money, especially considering the free tea and biscuits ;)
What I enjoyed most about the course was just that every week I'd learn something new - the things I thought were so complicated about my camera were made so easy to understand by Annie. The teaching style/personality of Annie plus the great group of people we had meant I couldn't wait to go back each week. The London trip and the portrait session was a particular highlight. Now on to the intermediate course!.....
Mark P, Autumn 2014 Beginners
Although I had some appreciation how ISO, shutter speed and aperture interact to affect exposure etc, this course gave me a much better feel for what values these parameters should be set to for different situations/occasions, with handy hints and potential pitfalls to avoid. For a beginners' course these sessions are well pitched, without too much unnecessary detail, and tell you what you need to know to start improving your photography.
Throughout the course there was lots of helpful advice and valuable 'pearls of wisdom' and plenty of feedback, giving students the benefit of years of experience of a dedicated career photographer, all delivered in a very engaging style and with enthusiasm. This didn't just apply to the operational aspects of your camera but there was also a lot of advice and guidance on composition and content, with numerous pictorial examples to get the message across.

Hi Annie,
Thanks for everything. The two courses of yours I've taken have transformed me from a point and click guy to an artist. You've given me the energy to want to learn more.
For me the turning point was when I stopped looking at a camera as a device to capture images and instead saw it as a device to capture light.
If you decide to do an advanced or intermediate plus course in the future, I'd definitely be interested.
Dan, Autumn 2014 Intermediate
HI Annie, Firstly, I'd like to say thank you soooooo much for this course. I have learned so much more beyond my wildest expectations before I started!!! I now feel as though I could spend all day, every day, taking photos - and still not have done as much as I wanted to! You made everything so clear and easy to understand - your humerous, but compassionate (if that's the right word) personality was definitely the key to this! I still regularly hear you in my ear - READ THE SCREEN!!!!
I'm not sure I'm really good enough for the intermediate class, but would love to give it a try if possible please? I Please can you let me know when bookings open?
Natasha, Autumn 2014 Beginners
With regard to feedback on the course :
Dear Annie, just to say another ‘thank you’ for the course, I’ll miss it now that it’s finished! I’d love to progress to the Intermediate course. I found your teaching inspirational and very understandable – everything was pitched at just the right level for me (i.e. assuming I knew nothing!)
The course was friendly, fun and serious all at the same time.
I put on my hand written form that I’d often had a problem finding a teacher who expressed things in a way that I could fully understand. I’ve been teaching children & adults dancing for more years than I care to remember and know that everyone absorbs information differently. I liken it to a good hairdresser trying to find someone to cut their hair well! Sometimes a teacher will unwittingly omit a tiny vital piece of information and from that moment I’m lost . You managed to go through a raft of information and get every point across, your analogies were superb and really helped too.
You provided encouraging and constructive criticism of our work.
Pat, Autumn 2014 Beginners
Annie’s course was simply excellent. She possesses an infectious enthusiasm coupled with a deep knowledge of the subject, delivered in a personable manner. The course was fun, engaging and very well structured. I feel that i have learnt a lot in a short space of time, and gained confidence through understanding of how photography works, and all for a reasonable fee! It far exceeded my expectations. I have booked on to the intermediate course already and I’m really looking froward to it. I can’t recommend Annie's courses highly enough..
Clifford , Spring Beginners 2014
I throughly enjoyed the Beginners course and didn't want it to end. Before I started the course, I used to take loads of photos without actually knowing what I was doing or how i'd got a 'good' one. Annie was great at making me understand the different aspects of photography and how to use my camera. It was great to be able to use all the features on my camera better and I could see an immediate improvement in the quality of my photographs. No longer do I point and shoot, but instead I take time to craft a beautiful photograph that I am proud of. I can't wait to do the intermediate course and in the meantime I will be putting everything I have learnt into good practise.

I have already spoken to so many people about the amazing photography course I took with Annie - she just made it simple.
For those of you like me that go out and buy a great camera with the expectation of it taking great photos - this is the course for you...... she has a great way about her that makes the course fun and interesting.
Every class we were actually shown where things were on the camera and took photos in different settings.
I am really visual and this for me was such an important part, as reading it in the manual meant nothing!
Some one reminded me recently "its the person behind the camera that makes the difference"...... how true is that.
My wonderful camera was always on AUTO as I had no idea what else to do with it. Now I am confident on choosing the right light or shutter speed and looking at exactly what I want in my photo. I am not afraid to experiment and see what happens either.
Thank you so much for giving me the confidence and knowledge to be able to do all this. I have the whole summer to put in into practise before I start the intermediate course in September.
Have a great summer and see you then x
Julie,Tuesday eve Spring Beginners Course 2014
Thank you Annie.
I signed up for the beginners course hoping by the end to be able to understand some of the scary settings and menus on my digital camera.
Who would have believed in 8 short weeks I would have been transformed into someone who understood iso, shutter speed, aperture settings, high and low key, rule of thirds and so much more.
Thank you Annie for taking someone who was a confirmed auto snapper and patiently explaining in a fun and memorable way how to take stunning photographs on manual.
I enjoyed myself so much I can't wait until September to start the intermediate course.
Julie, Wednesday eve Spring 2014
Thank you, Learn Digital Photo, Ann Kelly I loved the beginners course. I learnt loads and with your encouragement I feel that I have the tools to take a decent photo.
Don't change anything, the course is fab and I can't recommend it enough.
Jo — feeling happy.
Jo, Wednesday eve Spring 2014
Dear Annie,
Thank you so much for the last 8 weeks. I have really enjoyed the course and met some really nice people at the same time. When I started on the course the only way I could ever take a photo was to point and shoot in automatic mode!!! After 8 weeks with Learn Digital Photo I can now say that at last I know how to use my camera in full manual mode something I thought I would never be able to do!!! Anyone who has a camera that has a manual setting and wants to know how to use it properly should do this course. Annie is a great teacher and really knows how to get all the information home to you.
Once again thank you so much and I look forward to doing the intermediate course.

From Arlette - Summer 2013
This time last year, I had a compact camera that I used to take 'snappy pics' with. I wanted to know how the 'manual' setting worked. My husband's DSLR camera I referred too as the 'twiddly widdly' camera because I had no idea how it worked!
With recommendation from a friend, I decided, with a great deal of trepidation to embark on Annie's beginner's photography course. I quickly realised on day 1 how clueless I was!
I needn't have worried though; Annie is a fantastic teacher with a great deal of patience (she needed it with me!), and the clever and thorough way in which she teaches helps it all to sink in...
By week three I had bought my own DSLR! I enjoyed the Beginners Course so much that I went on to do the Intermediate Course as well.
Not only have I learnt about how to use a camera to take great photos, but I have also learnt about the 'why' we select various settings. I have also learnt some necessary computer skills to aid my photography, and have also learnt a lot about myself as well as gained some much needed confidence skills.
Last week I took some photographs, in manual settings, of my daughter and some of her friends in their Year 11 Prom outfits. I gave the parents of those children CDs of their child's photos.
Today I was paid a Massive tribute when one of the parents thanked me profusely and said that the photos of her daughter were beautiful and really professionally done; she'd got them blown up and had given them as presents to family!!
All this could not have been possible without Annie's fantastic teaching skills (which, of course I said to the mum!).
Annie, I really can't thank you enough. THANK YOU!
When's the next course...I want more?!!
From Michelle - Summer 2013
Annie, Thank you so much for everything you have taught me so far on the course, tonight I took some pictures of my friends 15 year old daughter for her to use in a portfolio, I used full Manual mode and have some really stunning shots, something I would never have achieved without your help.

.."Do you want to take better photos? Want to go on a fun course with a fantastic tutor who makes learning fun? Make new friends and challenge yourself. Then look no further than Anne Learn Digital Photo. I can't recommend highly enough. I'm going to be lost at the end of the intermediate course. Thanks Annie for giving me the confidence to pursue my passion of capturing the moment :-).
"Annie, I just wanted to thank you so much for putting on a really fantastic intermediate course. I just love your teaching style and the fact you make it fun to learn. Your passion, energy and commitment to giving people a good course really shines through. It just goes to show we are never too old to learn and we should follow our passions and interests. I have met some really great people at the course and was made to feel really welcome by everyone and that made a real difference to me. Wednesday nights won't be the same but I am going to make a promise to myself to keep on photographing and keep in touch with people. So..... to all those people out there with a camera that is just stuck on Auto - if you want to get learning then Annie is the woman for you! No more "Auto" get on "Manual"! I will keep the 3p's in my head!!! Thanks Annie".From Beverley Szczech March 2013
"Sadly I have just finished my intermediate course with Annie. I feel I have made amazing progress from my beginners course up until now. I completed another course in St Albans the year before with another tutor but felt I never truly understood all the technicalities and skills to use my camera and how to get the results I can now achieve. Annie goes that extra mile to make sure you understand and achieve great results, nothing is too much trouble, questions that you may feel are stupid are answered with ease from someone who was born to teach photography! The courses she offers give exceptional value for money and now when I look back over my pictures, I can see how her brilliant teaching skills have given me confidence and understanding of how my DSLR works. My camera is now always with me or very nearby to capture those special moments. I cannot thank Annie enough and am looking forward to any other courses / day trips / holidays etc. she offers. Apart from having an amazing time learning, I have made some very special friends on these courses and long may our friendship continue". Thank you Annie x
